Rocket League is an original game whose concept is simple to understand but features mechanics that are difficult to master. This game can sometimes require thousands of hours to reach a high level of play. These various tips will help you improve or continue to refine your skills, regardless of your rank.

General Tips
- For beginners, the main goal is to successfully control your vehicle and hit the ball correctly to put it in the back of the net more easily.
- Don’t play when you are tired.
- Avoid playing alone (except in 1v1s).
- Maintain good rotations.
- Learn simple mechanics at the beginning.
- Play in Freeplay before queuing up for ranked matches to warm up.
- Don’t boost when you are already supersonic; it is a useless waste of boost.
- Don’t dive in (overcommit) when you are the last defender.
- Learn to defend your goal from the back post.
- Manage your boost optimally.
- Remember to go for demolitions at the end of your rotation.
- Be creative.
- Have fun! Don’t force it when things aren’t working out; take a break.
Bronze Rank
At this Elo, good car control and a few solid shots will get you out of this rank without too much trouble. Don’t chase the ball relentlessly, take wide turns, and hit the ball toward the opponent’s goal as much as possible. There is no point in trying to play in the air at this level; avoid jumping for nothing.
Silver Rank
In Silver, you will need to follow the Bronze advice while adding a few mechanics to your gameplay. Defense and power shots will be extremely useful for getting out of this tier. You will need to start working on half-flips and jumping movements for defense, such as the double jump, which is useful for starting to perform fast aerials in net. Learn to defend your goal from different positions, especially from the sides. Aerials are not common in Silver; mastering the basics of simple aerials will give you a distinct advantage.
Gold Rank
To climb out of this tier, you will need to start mastering rotations and understanding how they work and why they are useful. Good positioning and solid shot mastery will be necessary to reach the next milestones. Movement mechanics such as dashes (wavedashes) and half-flips will come in very handy. A good sense of rotation and strong game sense are also required. Unleash your best power shots and simple aerials, and you will make it out of the Gold rank.
Platinum Rank
Starting in Platinum, you get to the heart of the matter; rotations and power shots should become second nature. It will be necessary to master simple aerials at this level to progress. Playing off the wall and starting to properly defend your goal will help you avoid being surprised by your opponents. Ground techniques are becoming common practice, such as front flips, half-flips, and various dashes. Start practicing flip kickoffs—or better, if you know how to do them—but a standard flip kickoff will be more than enough to stay competitive. To get out of Platinum, air dribbles, dribble bumps, various flips, and defending your wall/backboard will help you reach Diamond.
Diamond Rank
You are starting to have either good rotations or good mechanics. In Diamond, you will need to work on your open nets by shooting accurately, and learn to defend your backboard so you don’t get scored on by double taps. You will need to work on your wall drags (wall-to-air dribbles) as well as your wall shots to be able to score in various situations. Air dribbles and movement mechanics will be very useful to push past Diamond. Learn to speed flip and develop your boost management. Stopping the habit of just booming the ball and giving away possession will be the main thing you must learn to hit Champion.
Champion Rank
From Champion onward, it is imperative that you stop giving the ball away and maintain solid rotations. The fundamental mechanics of the game become commonplace, but you will need to use common sense and game intelligence to reach Grand Champion. Don’t throw yourself at the ball for nothing, and always analyze what your opponent is doing. Low Champion and High Champion are completely different worlds; you will need to spend some time evolving in Champion to understand its subtleties.
Grand Champion & SSL Progression
From this level onward, players either have great rotations and simple mechanics (remember that with just a few simple mechanics, it is possible to reach a high level), or they are highly mechanical and aerial-focused players. The mechanical skill gap widens heavily in Diamond but begins to balance out from Grand Champion up to SSL (Supersonic Legend). You might be comfortable with certain mechanics, but never forget that in Rocket League, good positioning is essential to being effective. Defense will become just as important as offense.
